Drawing on material from her two publicly released albums as well as works in progress, visiting artist Melinda Rothouse will describe her songwriting process and perform several of her songs, tracing their development from lyric inspirations and musical snippets to final completed works. The workshop will include several experiential writing and sound improvisation exercises designed to inspire participants' own creativity.

The Art of Impermanence explores the process of change and becoming, of the ephemerality of our everyday experience, through the lens of creativity and contemplative arts practice. Through a combination of daily mindfulness meditation practice and creative arts exercises, we will explore the vulnerability inherent in our existence as sentient beings, observing how all phenomena arise and pass away. Using an array of artistic media, including writing, photography, movement, sound, and visual arts, we’ll awaken to the fluid nature of life from the loving container and lush gardens of Casa Werma in Patzcuaro, Mexico.

$700 Program Fee (does not include lodging)

Tracing the Jungian Journey to Wholeness: The Path of Creativity and Individuation

(CDT, UTC-05) (CDT, UTC-05)

Saybrook University Online Seminar

This experiential seminar will explore the Jungian and depth psychological journey of creativity and individuation. According to Carl Jung, individuation is the process of becoming a separate, whole self that each of us experiences during the course of our lives, as we move through the stages of child and adult development. It involves the fundamentally creative process of incorporating unconscious material into consciousness and integrating the various strands of our being in a process of discovery and self-realization that in turn motivates and informs our creative work.

Exploring Creative Citizenship: A Free Meetup with Syncreate Founders Melinda Rothouse & Charlotte Gullick

 — (CDT, UTC-05) — (CDT, UTC-05)

Online via Zoom

Please join us for a discussion on what it means to be a creative citizen. How do we support and uplift the other creatives in our life?

Supporting the creative endeavors of our wider community is one powerful mechanism available to us to engage in creative citizenship. Undeniably, we are not alone in our own artistic worlds. Rather, we move within a hive of creatives who support, nourish, and celebrate one another instead of competing and undercutting one another. This Meetup session will focus on techniques to build creative citizenship.

The good news: it turns out this is a very normal and natural part of the journey, one that can actually lead to deeper inspiration and engagement with our work. Join Melinda Rothouse, Ph.D. to learn how to navigate your way through creative despair to realize your creative visions.
